The 2025-26 season brought another wave of lighter, more specialized sticks. Based on manufacturer specs, retail pricing, and pro-stock use, here is the current landscape and what is actually worth your money. Prices and specs verified against manufacturer sites, October 2026.
Manufacturers are chasing two things: lower weight and a more defined kick point. Boron fiber (used by Bauer) and similar stiff, light materials let brands cut weight without giving up durability. Blades are being built with stiffer cores for better puck feel, and flex ranges are widening, with some custom programs offering flexes from 30 up to 102.
PROTO2: Bauer's current flagship mid-kick stick, around 345 g, with boron reinforcement and a redesigned blade core. Retail is about $390, and the custom program offers 13 flex options with blade patterns including P28, P88, and P90TM.
Vapor Hyperlite 2: low-kick line aimed at quick releases, about 365 g, with ACL 2.0 layering and a stiffer blade core.
PROTO-R: the lightest Bauer mid-kick stick at about 345 g, built with boron for a high strength-to-weight ratio.
Jetspeed: CCM's hybrid-kick line, built for playmaking and puck movement. The FT9 PRO VIZION is the current flagship (2026).
Vizion 2: an ultra-low-kick model tuned for the fastest possible release.
Warrior's lineup (Covert, Alpha, and Novium families) covers low-kick and mid-kick options at several price points. True builds the Catalyst (mid kick) and Hzrdus (low kick) families and is known for its custom program. Sherwood also remains popular in Europe with the Rekker Legend series.
Flagship: about $300-400. The lightest with the best feel, and the fastest to break.
Mid-tier: $120-200. The sweet spot for most adults; often last season's tech.
Budget: $60-110. Heavier, but fine for beginners and casual play.
Flex and curve affect your game more than the price tier. A correctly flexed $150 stick will outperform a flagship with the wrong flex. If you want flagship performance on a budget, buy last season's top model at clearance, because the tech gap between years is small.
Quick-release snipers: low-kick models (Vapor Hyperlite 2, Vizion).
All-around forwards: mid-kick models (PROTO2, Jetspeed).
Point shots: stiffer flex in a mid-kick build.
Kids and beginners: budget composite or wood.
2026 sticks are lighter with sharper kick points. Match flex and curve before price. Last year's flagship beats this year's mid-tier at the same price.
